Hello and thank you for stopping by.
I was never one of those 20-somethings who spent their youth travelling the world, foot-loose and fancy free.
I was a broke university student who wanted nothing more than a respectable career and the financial stability that came with it.
I hadn’t learnt the art of managing my finances yet, so I spent my uni years living it up with my friends at our local bars, going to as many live gigs as I could fit into my study and work schedule.
I took my first solo overseas trip when I was 19. I’d just finished a year at film school and had barely a thousand dollars but managed to travel to England and a couple of European destinations thanks to a return plane ticket funded by my lovely English Grandma who was keen for me to visit!
I ventured abroad at least once a year after that, though it was always on a tight budget, often staying with extended family or travelling to developing countries.
Amongst the short travel trips, my other interests including sustainability, vegetarianism, gardening and playing music continued to grow, which I’ll talk about in later posts.
Some years later when I was amidst my dream career in TV news, I realised it was pretty easy to knuckle down on my lifestyle at home to save money for more extensive travel adventures.
I took as much annual leave as I could over my six-year broadcasting career, returning to Europe and South East Asia many times to explore new countries.
It eventually got to a point where I really wanted to see more of the world and I didn’t have enough annual leave to do it.
So I finally made the tough decision to say goodbye to my life as a TV News Video Journalist to pursue another dream of a big overseas trip.
I took off on a four-month adventure to SE Asia.
I travelled across Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Borneo, Indonesia and India which I jam-packed over the course of four months as I had to get back to Australia for a friend’s wedding.
While I’d saved up enough money for a real, grownup adventure, I somehow managed to complete the trip on half the money I expected I would spend.
While in India, a few weeks before I was due to return for a friend’s wedding, I was approached with a media job offer for a senior politician in Western Australia so I accepted the role for six months before taking another big trip, which is where I am now…
You can find me on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter to keep up with my travels through videos, photos and journalism.
Thanks for stopping by and I’m glad to have you along for the adventure!
